General Manager, Operations Standards

The Port Authority of NY & NJ is seeking a talented General Manager to manage the Operations Standards Division in the Management and Budget Department (MBD).   The Operations Standards Division provides Industrial Engineering services to assist Port Authority’s senior executive management, line and staff departments in accomplishing business objectives in the most effective and efficient manner.  The Division evaluates functions, operations and processes; develops recommendations for improvement and provides assistance during implementation.

Specific responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Reporting to the Director, MBD, the General Manager will be responsible for managing the delivery of a wide range of Industrial Engineering consulting projects. Specific responsibilities include the following.

  • Develop an annual plan for the Division composed of potential high priority and high impact Industrial Engineering projects through discussions with the Director of MBD and other senior executive staff.
  • Manage the timely delivery of multiple high priority Industrial Engineering projects based on priorities established in the annual plan.
  • Provide appropriate support to MBD by participating in various key functions and services provided by the department.
  • Identify and discuss with the Director of MBD and other senior executive staff potential areas to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Oversee management consultants from external organizations who may be retained on an as-needed basis to conduct certain Industrial Engineering projects.
  • Facilitate the recruitment and development of high quality Industrial Engineers for the Division.
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends in Industrial Engineering and internal management consulting.

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, or Operations Research or Engineering Management from an accredited college or university.

At least six years of demonstrated experience in managing an Industrial Engineering management consulting function in a comparable organization.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills with experience interacting with all levels of internal staff and peers from external organizations.
