Overview:

 

The Enterprise eCommerce Architect has a wide range of responsibilities in assessing (financial & technical), architecting, and assist in designing eCommerce infrastructure for Macy's.  Architects develop roadmaps, standards and assess new technologies for investment, develop transition plans from existing to new technologies, and evangelize new IT patterns. They develop future state for IT Infrastructure here at Macy's. A top-level contributor in the Infrastructure Services organization that acts independently with minimal direction.  Works with a variety of MST, division and vendor resources to plan and execute cloud systems infrastructure projects.  Supports project and management teams by providing technical consulting to include architecture and design support, solution piloting, and development of best practices and reference architectures for cloud-centric systems.  Engages audit and compliance resources to ensure MST policy compliance in cloud systems.  Continually evaluates the eCommerce landscape to determine and recommend best options for eCommerce projects.  Evaluates third-party tools to determine and recommend best options for deploying and managing public, private and hybrid clouds.  Takes a lead role in developing the roadmap for Macy's long term eCommerce hosting platform while leveraging cloud and other technologies that accelerate our ability to deliver new capabilities to customers faster.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:
  • Set strategic direction for eCommerce technology and the future macys.com hosting platform.
  • Review project technology design to ensure alignment with architectural principles and future objectives.
  • Evaluate, architect, and build proofs of technology/concept for eCommerce technology.
  •  Financial planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Decision Making:
 
  • Platform and technology evaluation, selection & recommendation. Will partner with IFS & other department executive management and MST Finance in finalizing the recommendation.
 
Skills Summary:
  • Strong IT experience - 10 years.
  • Deep technology experience in the areas of focus: eCommerce, Network, IT Security, Application/Database Servers, Operating Systems, Processor Architecture, Storage & Backup, DR.
  • Must be a team player and must have flexibility to work on a variety of efforts concurrently.
  • Need to communicate effectively with peers who are responsible for managing and implementing requirements.
  • Responsible for translating business requirements into well-engineered, tested and deployed cloud systems that will be mission-critical to the business.
  • Strong analysis/troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong partnering/relationship building skills.
  • Experience with eCommerce infrastructure and hosting design practices.
  • Experience with eCommerce application design principles.
  • Experience with virtualization and cloud technologies.
  • Experience with eCommerce application and infrastructure scalability practices.
  • Experience with Continuous Delivery.
  • Design the future hosting platform for macys.com.
  •  Design the infrastructure architecture for hosting macys.com in the cloud and in multiple data centers.
  • Partner with application development teams to establish architectural design patterns for hosting applications in the cloud.
  • Create and maintain eCommerce infrastructure design documentation.
  • Assist Infrastructure Services project teams as required.
  • Participate in project planning, task duration estimation and project artifact compilation.
  • Work with various product architects, developers, product managers, and application experts to arrive at architectural recommendations.
  • Develop detailed design specifications.
  • Participate in the development of RFPs, RFIs.
  • Broad understanding of application and technical architectures.
  • 5-10 years eCommerce infrastructure and application experience.
  •  5-10 years OS experience (Linux, Solaris, AIX, or Windows).
  • 5-10 years’ experience supporting enterprise applications.
  • 3-5 years’ experience with systems automation and continuous delivery.
  • Deployment and operational expertise Linux, Windows and other Operating Systems.
  • Expert knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMWare and other VM technologies is a big plus
  • Familiarity with public and private cloud computing environments based on VMware , Xen Desktop
  • Full understanding of business level objectives and offers support to development teams regarding new technologies and system requirements.
  • Has thorough knowledge of all infrastructure components, application development, and web and software applications.
  • Participates in all key initiatives for the Infrastructure team.
  • Involves in advanced and state-of-the-art assignments such as System design, specification of equipment configurations, technology assessment, complex technology troubleshooting.
  • Analyzes system requirements and ensures that systems will be effectively integrated with current environments.
  • The role requires an individual who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment with a remit to change the industry.
  • Evaluate infrastructure technology requests and provide design and architecture consulting support.
  • Engaging with technology and business leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide expertise to engineering teams to enable technology migrations.
  • Provide expertise to complex problem troubleshooting.
  • Understand business objectives and industry trends.
  • Create technical standards specifications and design documents.
  • Requires 25% of travel.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 8-10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
