Position Summary:

POSITION:                Chief Engineer

REPORTS TO:          Facility Manager; Regional Facility Manager

POSITION PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for the operation of a facility’s mechanical and electrical systems.  The Chief Engineer coordinates and assigns work duties to the maintenance technicians and takes a hands-on role in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the scheduling, maintenance, and monitoring of all heating, ventilating, air conditioning, water, electric, and other systems to ensure efficient operation.
  • Implements and schedules preventative maintenance standards that are in compliance with Jones Lang LaSalle and client guidelines.
  • Provides formal supervision to maintenance technicians within a facility or portfolio (including performance management, coaching, and development).  
  • Manages and schedules all projects that have been delegated to the maintenance technicians.  Reviews for accuracy and quality of work performed by the technicians.
  • Maintains a critical parts inventory and monitors it throughout the year.
  • Prepares and submits client / JLL maintenance reports (UPS batteries, QER, Overtime, Energy, SEP, etc.).
  • Evaluates vendors and suppliers on a regular basis with regard to quality and competitive pricing.
  • Communicate regularly with manager and attend scheduled staff meetings / calls.
  • Other duties and tasks may be assigned.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all base building and critical system equipment which includes but not limited to:  assembling all tools, supplies and instruments necessary to complete the job, performing work with a minimum amount disruption, conducting immediate clean-up of work area, completing the preventive task sheet, returning tools to workshop, and unused supplies to store room, reporting any equipment problems, impending supply or material shortages to the Site Engineer.
  • Oversee and monitor the operation and make adjustments on refrigeration, heat exchanger, HVAC, electrical, emergency backup systems and hot water systems.
  • Review and analyze system data (reliability, 1 calls, etc.) and developing initial recommendation with Site Engineer on any maintenance changes, upgrades, replacements, etc. 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
  • Universal Certification is required.
  • Refrigeration license is a plus but is not required.
  • Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong customer service skills are required.
  • Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Skilled in use of tools and machinery required by the position.  Knowledge of OSHA standards and local codes.
  • Familiar with computer equipment and programs.  Capable of operating a Facility Managing System (FMS).
