Overview:
Macy’s Systems and Technology is seeking a Sr. eCommerce Operations Engineer. The selected Applicant will be an expert technical contributor in the eCommerce Infrastructure Operations organization who has eCommerce system expertise with infrastructure knowledge. Acting independently with little direction, supports the management team in providing technical consulting in the analysis, troubleshooting, modification, and implementation of highly complex ecommerce systems that conform to MST standards and methodology.
Using a logical, systematic, and efficient approach, able to analyze a wide variety of technical problems in an operational setting, determine root cause, develop solutions, and implement fixes to the problems in a rapid-pace environment. Adept hands on experience with java application servers and web servers; including installation, tuning and trouble shooting. Possesses technical knowledge of all areas that support the eCommerce systems, including operating systems, network, security, and storage.
Key Accountabilities:
Leads incident management efforts of high-impacting incidents across own team and external teams, troubleshoots technical problems with production and non-production infrastructure and systems in an operational environment, determines root cause for problems and determines solutions.
Administers and manages the configurations for Web Applications using technologies such as WebSphere or JBOSS, assists with deployment activities to production and non-production environments.
Conducts formal verbal and written communication to management regarding progress, status updates, and incident impacts; communicates clearly and effectively with senior management on technical issues.
Creates and maintains documentation on existing ecommerce systems, such as root cause analysis documents, triage and rescue procedures, deployment steps, etc.
Creates and refines intra-team and inter-team processes and coordination measures relating to the teams' efficiency.
Mentors other team members on on technology and processes.
May serve on a team staffed 24x7 in an immediate-response capacity or on a team maintaining a 24x7 on call in a problem resolution capacity.
Mentors junior engineers within the Operations team.

Candidates for this role must be able to interpret raw data being presented by various monitoring and alerting tools to develop conclusions on the health status of the various layers and systems in the macys.com and bloomingdales.com ecommerce sites.

Candidates must be able to decide what solutions are best to restore service to a production issue in highly visible and rapid-paced situations.
Candidates must be able to decide how to resolve technical problems and when and how to implement the solutions.
Candidates must be able to decide when and how to work with a variety of internal and external teams to verify assumptions, gather information, assist with a problem, or mitigate risk.
Communicates effectively with peers, managers, directors, and senior-level management.
Implements effective processes within own team and across other teams.
Skill Summary:
Significant experience with application deployment to a distributed environment is required.
Experience with automation of deployment processes is a strong plus.
Experience analyzing and summarizing application performance metrics is required.
Candidates should be familiar with operational processes for high availability systems and able to make suggestions for improvement as needed.
Candidates must be able to effectively communicate issues and solutions to a diverse audience, including VP-level executives.
Candidates in this role need to have 8-10 years experience supporting a high trafficked eCommerce site (operations experience a strong plus).
8-10 years experience with industry standard web application servers (WebSphere or JBOSS experience a plus, WebSphere Certification a strong plus).
8-10 years UNIX experience (including AIX, Linux, Solaris).
8-10 years experience with industry standard web servers (IHS or Apache experience a plus).
8-10 years experience with a Build and Deployment tool (AntHill Pro a strong plus).
8-10 years experience with SQL (DB2 experience a plus).
8-10 years experience with monitoring tools like Splunk, ITCAM, DynaTrace, KeyNote, very strong verbal and written communication skills, very strong analysis/troubleshooting skills, strong partnering/relationship building skills, strong leadership skills.
MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), Lotus Notes or MS Outlook.
Bachelor's Degree preferred and 8-10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
