Overview:
Macy’s Systems and Technology is seeking a Sr. Infrastructure Architect. The selected Applicant acts independently with minimal direction to design and extend a stable production infrastructure allowing for flexibility while maintaining a secure environment.
Will be a top level technical design contributor in one or more highly specialized phases of infrastructure architecture. Supports the management team in providing leadership, architectural guidance and expertise, and technical consulting in the development, modification, and implementation of multiple highly complex information systems that conform to MST standards and methodology.
Key Accountabilities:
Provides strategic focus, leadership, architectural guidance and expertise, and business and technical consulting in the development, modification, and implementation of highly complex information systems that conform to MST standards and methodology and that may cross Business Units. Drives projects or project phases to completion.
Additional duties include:
With extensive technical and business knowledge of all phases of applications system architecture with strong technical (applications based) knowledge, provides strategic focus on system solutions that cross MST FOBs.
Designs and implements Active Directory infrastructure, associated processes for updating and maintaining an environment that allows for extension as needed.
Designs and implements flexible and efficient processes for operating system installs, associated images and techniques for applying fixes.
Designs and educates MST associates in the design and implementation of SNA networks, gateways and concepts.
Provides architectural guidance to development teams on design and implementation of systems being designed.
Based on customer requirements, formulates/defines systems scope and objectives; analyzes technical requirements; translates developer requirements and recommends architecturally sound solutions.
Leads the research, development, coding or modifying of architecture components that are well designed, efficient and conform to MST architectural standards. Establishes processes and standards for reusable sample code.
Leads the creation of detailed specs from which components will be written.
Educates MST customers in the design tradeoff considerations for supported systems.
Provides trouble-shooting assistance on supported systems.
Provides key metrics to management about the health and use of supported systems.
Leads the effort to establish better processes and systems to ease maintenance of supported systems.
Interfaces with development teams to improve feature set of supported systems as well as the systems being developed by development groups.
When assuming the project manager role, manages day-to-day project-related activities for highly complex projects. Produces, drives, and manages project schedules, status, resources, deliverables, issues, risk, and timelines throughout the project with input from the team. Builds team consensus and has responsibility for the execution and final delivery of the project. Conducts post-phase evaluations and communicates “lessons learned” and best practices to management.
Manages customer expectations. Keeps the customer aware of the project status and critical issues and risks. Obtains customer sign off at appropriate checkpoints.
Prepares documentation on all phases of development of new systems and modification of existing systems.
May serve as primary system support for two or more complex information systems based on in-depth system knowledge.
May be responsible for training, mentoring, directing, and validating the work of less experienced/knowledgeable analysts.
Keeps management well informed on a timely basis of progress, status, and concerns for each assignment.
Effectively communicates ideas and information to peers, management, and customers.
Translates customer requirements, recommending system solutions and formulating detailed specifications from which components are written.
Provides leadership in the evaluation and recommendation of hardware and software solutions used throughout the industry for use at MST.
May be responsible for driving multiple projects to completion.
Independently researches and resolves technical problems of the highest complexity.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Relationships:
Internal: Departmental Team members, direct management and senior management – drive for consensus; provide status; push for better process and systems to ease maintenance of supported systems.
External: FOB (Business Units) Development groups – provide development support as well as troubleshooting assistance to development groups. Engage with development teams to improve feature set of supported systems as well as the systems being developed by development groups. Provide architectural guidance to development teams on design and implementation of systems being designed.
Skill Summary:
Bachelor's Degree preferred and a minimum 8 years infrastructure operations and design; Minimum 4 year experience in systems and architecture design.
Advanced knowledge of Windows infrastructure architecture and concepts.
Advanced knowledge data center management and process.
Advanced knowledge of either SNA or TCP/IP and associated technologies.
Intermediate knowledge of systems and application architectures.
Excellent understanding of full life cycle development.
Excellent technical, analytical, problem solving, multitasking, and time management skills with consistent attention to detail. Advanced understanding of analytical techniques.
Ability to effectively learn and use new programming concepts, tools, and methodology to support the needs of the business.
Advanced functional understanding of the assigned retail business area (logistics, credit, and so forth) and how it interacts with other areas of the business and detail processes. Overall understanding of the MST suite of systems and their interdependence is a plus.
Advanced understanding of emerging technologies and systems development best practices.
Strong leadership, teamwork, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across functional lines and at many levels.
Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and consensus building skills.
Excellent presentation and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate technical issues and solutions to all levels of business.

Advanced PC Windows skills (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Project).
Advanced understanding of the MST Solutions Framework.
