Overview:
 
Enterprise Application Architect: Experienced architect possessing expertise across multiple architectural domains, addressing end to end solutions and identifying opportunities to shape the future of the business through technology.
 
Development/Architecture Function:
    • This job function exists to design, develop and communicate models, processes, tools, standards and methodologies used in various architecture domains (i.e. applications, network, storage, data, middleware, servers, operating systems) or models that incorporate “end-to-end” solutions that consider multiple domains.
    • Architects develop standards and roadmaps, assess new technologies for investment, and articulate the transition from current to future state in consideration of the future needs of the business, security policies and requirements, and striking an optimal balance between standardization, customization, innovation, costs and risk management.
Key Accountability:
  • Provides technical solutions to the business, leveraging their technical expertise, a broad understanding of the current and future application and infrastructure architectures, and an awareness of Macy’s key strategies and objectives. Plays a leadership role in architectural planning for MST.
  • Develop highly sophisticated technology plans that require the integration of multiple technologies, and the interrelationships of multiple systems serving diverse customers. Provides technical advice and counsel to IT project teams in the design and support of major systems of the most complex nature and which have broad implications for the IT architecture.
  • Develops architectural standards and roadmaps to migrate to standards that will add significant value to the business. Promotes the architectural vision to IT colleagues, explaining the ultimate value to be achieved, and resolving conflicts between standardization and innovation.
  • Leads the evaluation of new technologies relative to their areas of responsibility. Proposes technology investments supported by a thorough technical analysis, proof of concept and business case.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor to more junior members of the business unit. Delegates tasks as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Evaluates and recommends new technical directions and approaches to senior management.
  • Provides recommendations for investment in new products and technology solutions, supported by appropriate ROI, total cost of ownership, and/or cost benefit analyses.
Skills Summary:
  • Demonstrates expertise of multiple domains across the applications and technical architectures, including the inter-relationships and interfaces between systems and technologies.
  • Maintains thorough understanding of leading edge technologies and their applicability for the current and future architecture.
  • Brings technical knowledge from external sources and incorporates those ideas into MST. Raises the bar of technical knowledge that exists within MST by ensuring that leading expertise is maintained and enhanced in the organization.
  • Understands business needs along with key Macy’s strategies and trends, and factors this knowledge into planning for the future of the applications and technical architectures.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of how major business change initiatives translate into strategic level systems solutions along with the business impact of different solutions (e.g. costs, risks to the business).
  • Maintains an understanding of business plans and strategies of competitors and of industry in general.
  • Able to develop highly sophisticated technology plans that require the integration of multiple technologies, addressing the interrelationships of multiple systems, and serving diverse customers.
  • Addresses problems that have unique and/or broad implications for the IT architecture.
  • Analyzes systems and processes from end to end, assessing how data travels and is used from multiple perspectives. Can analyze the most challenging cross-technology and cross platform issues.
  • Provides technical advice and counsel to IT project teams in the design and support of major systems of the most complex nature and which have broad implications for the IT architecture.
  • Strong experience with Open Source Technologies.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred and 10 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
