Duties:

Seeking part-time board certified or boarded certified eligible Psychiatrists for the brand new, state-of-the-art Orlando VA Medical Center. Looking for motivated, flexible, team-oriented providers of patient-centered care. Positions available include Part-time Psychiatrists for weekend/holiday coverage of the 40 bed Inpatient Mental Health Unit.
The primary role for these positions will focus on Inpatient care and Consulting with the Med/Surg inpatient units. Inpatient duties will include: Provide medical care including admission orders, history and physical (H&P), discharge orders, sick call and medication orders. The medical care will be supported by an internal medicine hospitalist system. Coordinates referrals and oversees continuity of medical care that is delivered to inpatients on acute psychiatric units. Each unit has 20 beds for total potential inpatient census of 40 and are designed around patient-centered care. Consultation/Liaison duties involve responding to consultation requests from Medical-Surgical units in general hospital of 100 beds.
Experience with substance abuse treatment and/or high acuity patients is a bonus.
Work Schedule: The candidate must be willing to work weekends and irregular work hours and may need to provide clinical services off tour and will be required to do so upon receiving critical clinical messages. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary. All providers may be detailed to any site within the Orlando system.
The selectee may be required to work or travel between any of the locations within Corporate Orlando, including the new Lake Nona campus when it opens. The selectee may also be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis, based on patient care needs.

      Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center is one of the Top 100 Companies in Central Florida for working families. The Orlando VA Medical Center includes a 120-bed Community Living Center and a 60-bed Residential Rehabilitation Program, located at the Lake Nona Campus, Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin), Viera and Daytona Beach and four Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Leesburg, and Orange City.  A new inpatient facility is currently under construction in southeast Orange County and is expected to open in 2016.  The new 65-acre medical campus will have 134-inpatient beds and provide acute care, complex specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, a large multispecialty outpatient clinic, and administrative and support services.

Qualifications & Evaluations
  • Basic Requirements:

    1. Candidates must be U.S or Naturalized citizens.
    2. Proficient in spoken and written English is required by 38 U.S.C. 7402 (d) and 7407 (d).
    3. Must possess and maintain a current, full and unrestricted license to practice in the state, territory or commonwealth of the United States, or in District of Columbia.
    4. Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathy resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
    5. Residents; Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes.The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
    6. Board eligible or certified in Psychiatry. (highly preferred)

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
