Associate/Full Professor of Biology and Chair of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Teach ½ time load of undergraduate biology courses, which will include introductory level courses in anatomy and physiology, as well as courses in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise
  • Serve as academic advisor to natural science majors
  • Carry out the duties of division chair
    • Promote and support the needs of faculty in the division
    • Support divisional teaching responsibilities
    • Support divisional scholarly activity
    • Lead curriculum development
    • Lead division outcomes assessment
    • Evaluate division faculty and staff
    • Oversee course scheduling and teaching assignments
    • Oversee division budget
    • Work with the Provost/VPAA to accomplish divisional goals
    • Serve on committees such as the Academic Council and the College Advisory Committee
    • Communicate effectively with division members
  • Advocate to campus administrators and committees on behalf of the division
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
  • Attend provided/necessary trainings and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision and values and adhering to institutional policies.
  • Maintain high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.

This position is a tenure track ten (10) month faculty position in the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with the additional responsibility of serving as Chair of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in biology with expertise in anatomy and physiology. He or she will have several years of faculty and administrative experience. Demonstrated teaching excellence and experience mentoring research at the undergraduate level are expected. The position is for the Fall 2016 semester and will come with a half-time teaching release in order to carry out the duties of division Chair. Candidates must support the mission and philosophy of a liberal arts education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in Biology or a related field, with expertise in anatomy and physiology
  2. Minimum of 7 years full-time faculty experience at a four year college or university
  3. Demonstrated administrative skills
  4. Demonstrated leadership skills
  5. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  6. Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  7. Experience in developing and implementing division-wide outcomes assessment is preferred
  8. Experience in writing and/or administering grants is preferred
  9. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  10. Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.
  11. Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff and the public.
  12. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional evening hours / weekends.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
